Liverpool vs Aston Villa
will Rafa be able to keep the pressure on Sir Alex ??
It would be typical of us to win the big game and then fall at the feet of the team without a win in 7 matches.
Oh so typical.
Team :
Arbeloa and Alonso are both doubtful with injury. Although i believe Arbeloa has returned to training so may make it back in time.

Quarter-Finals Draw
Who will the 4 English sides face next?...will it be each other?
The draw is on Friday, 19th March.
And so the last eight are decided, a pool of teams dominated by the English once more.
Arsenal
Barcelona
Bayern Munich
Chelsea
Liverpool
Manchester United
Porto
Villarreal
Arsenal - Chelsea
Barcelona - Villarreal
Liverpool - Manchester United
Porto - Bayern Munich
That's what I'd like to see. I want the English teams to play against each other because I don't want to watch an all english semifinal (who knows, it's possible). My favorite draw for Bayern would be Porto because they're probably the weakest side

This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world's first global election, between Earth and Global warming.
For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote - Swithcing off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming.
WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009. This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard. Earth hour began in Sydney, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome's Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.
In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people swithcing off their lights as part of a blobal vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you're from, but instead, what planet you're from. VOTE EARTH is a global call tp action for every individual, every business, and every community.
A call to stand up, and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EART during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.

Benitez signs new Liverpool deal
Source : (soccernet.espn.com)
Rafael Benitez has signed a new five-year contract at Liverpool, ending a 17-month power struggle with the club's board.
The future of the former Valencia boss, who led Liverpool to Champions League glory in 2005, had been in doubt since he revealed in January that he had rejected the club's first offer of a new contract.
Reports suggested that control over the Reds' transfer activity proved to be the sticking point for Benitez but the Merseyside club announced on Thursday evening that a new deal had been agreed that should keep him at Anfield until June 2014.
"My heart is with Liverpool Football Club, so I'm delighted to sign this new deal," Benitez said. "I love the club, the fans and the city and with a club like this and supporters like this, I could never say no to staying.
"I always made clear I wanted to be here for a long time and when I complete my new contract it will mean I have spent over a decade in Liverpool."
Benitez took over in 2004 and despite failing to end their wait for the top-flight title stretching back to 1990 he has re-established Liverpool as a European powerhouse, adding a final appearance in 2007 to the triumph two years earlier.
The 48-year-old said: "The club is greatly respected around the world due to its incredible history and tremendous heritage. It is my aim to uphold those values and help create a new chapter in our history.
"Throughout this process, I would like to thank the owners for their hard work in finalising the deal. All of us at the club want the same thing, which is to be successful by winning major trophies."
Last week Liverpool reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a 5-0 aggregate rout of Real Madrid and on Saturday, Benitez's men thrashed Premier League leaders Manchester United 4-1 at Old Trafford.
"It is wonderful news Rafa has made a long-term commitment to the club," American co-owner Tom Hicks said. "Since he became manager he has been responsible for the great progress we have made.
"I know he will continue to build on his achievements as he has a tremendous hunger and desire to bring more success to the club, success our fans and everyone connected with the club deserves."
As well as winning the Champions League, Benitez also lifted the FA Cup with Liverpool in 2006.
Co-Chairman George Gillett added: "With Rafa continuing to manage the team, we can look forward to more great football and success on the pitch. He has special abilities and qualities which are admired here at the club and around the world.
"Coming after our excellent wins over Real Madrid and Manchester United, this gives us great momentum going into the final stages of the season."
It is no surprise that Benitez agreed his new contract within a couple of weeks of chief executive Rick Parry's announcement that he would be leaving the club in the summer.
The two have had a sometimes strained relationship, with Benitez angry that many of his transfer negotiations seemed subject to the chief executive's opinion.
He had criticised the slowness of some deals, in which players he wanted were lost, with the key issue being the failure to sign Gareth Barry last summer, when the club refused to match Aston Villa's reported £18million asking price.
At first Hicks and Gillett rejected Benitez's demands to have control over transfers, and it is believed they even asked Villa's American owner Randy Learner for advice and confirmation that the sort of deal Benitez wanted was similar to Martin O'Neill's.
Benitez has continually been linked with Real Madrid, who will probably have a vacancy in the summer when Juande Ramos' short-term contract ends, but those rumours can now be put to bed

Liverpool stun Old Trafford - can Manchester United recover in time?
Close-up: Gerrard kisses a camera after scoring from the spot
Wow.
The last time I saw United get this humiliated was against Chelsea three years ago,We were shocking. But there’s no doubting it, Liverpool were top class.
The numbers say that United have a game in hand, a 4 point lead and games at home to come. Two games lost and United would still be a point ahead and mathematically the favourites for the title. But numbers aren’t everything. United have chased down big leads before in title races in recent years..
Well done Liverpool. See you at the finish line.

Torres In £22million Kop Deal
Source : News Of The World (www.notw.co.uk)
EXCLUSIVE :
New Liverpool contract will put striker on £90,000 a week
FERNANDO TORRES is ready to sign a new £22million deal with Liverpool.
The Spanish striker’s advisors have told the club’s American owners that the player will ignore overtures from across Europe to agree new terms this summer.
That would see the wages of the 24-year-old leap by £20,000 a week to £90,000 — with an extra year added to his existing deal.
Torres signed a bumper six-year deal when he joined from Atletico Madrid for £23m in 2007.
Although he’s struggled with injury this season, he’s become one of the most wanted strikers in the world and Manchester City are among those considering a massive bid.
But Torres has no intention of quitting Anfield, regardless of the boardroom and managerial uncertainty. Earlier this week, he rubbished claims he’d leave the club unless Rafa Benitez stayed as manager.
Talks have been on the back-burner while the club resolves Benitez’s situation but rewarding Torres is a top priority at the end of the current campaign.
Rivals
But Liverpool may have to cope without him in the Champions League showdown against Real Madrid at Anfield on Tuesday as they defend a 1-0 lead.
The hitman has been unable to train since the first leg due to an ankle problem and will undergo a fitness test tomorrow. The victory in the Bernabeu was Torres’ first win over his former city rivals in nine attempts.
Benitez said: “We are pushing him and are trying to get him fit for the game. He is very important to us.
“I didn’t know the statistics about Torres but when you are not winning against a team like Real Madrid you just know that there has to be a first time to enjoy a victory.
“He felt good about winning in the Bernabeu but that’s no good unless we carry on where we left off at Anfield.”

Boro double stuns Reds
Full Time : 2 - 0
Middlesbrough vs Liverpool FC
Dire just dire. Our form in the Premier League just crumbles apart. Times like this has made Rafa look silly for selling Keane. What the hell was Martin Skrtel doing playing at right back? Why didnt Jaime Carragher play there like he has done on many occasions.I don't know which is worse... Our performance, or Lucas' new haircut. I didn't even know it was him coming in for Gerrard....
